ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My work is largely realistic, and, more often than not, relating to a travel destination,
especially Italy, which keeps drawing me back. Landscapes and waterscapes are also my inspiration. What interests me the most when I start a new work is compositional structure and design. The subject matter is interesting insofar as it provides a vehicle for a composition. In many cases, the quality of light plays a big part as do the presence of illusory qualities such as reflections and shadows.
Odd perspectives and viewpoints interest me and I enjoy
working with the subtleties of texture and colour to create a mood.
I believe a painting is a playground for the eye and the result should bring both a sense of pleasure and tension to the viewer. When someone loves a painting, they love it again and again, appreciating it anew with each viewing. This is my goal!
Currently I am painting in oils and always seeking an intuitive
expression in an ever-more personal way.
